Prepare for Launch!
Yuri’s Night Bay Area is not quite like any other event on Earth. Here's a little information to help you prepare.
What to Wear
Yuri’s Night is a celebration. It's a great place to wear something festive! Costumes, especially costumes related to the themes of space exploration and radical sustainability, are highly encouraged. The hangar and tents will help protect you from any weather, but even inside the hangar the temperature will be the same as it is outdoors, and once night falls the temperature will drop substantially. We highly recommend that you bring something warm to wear!
Show off your amazing fashion skills and you could win big in the SpaceFashion.org Yuri’s Best Prize, with support from the Space Frontier Foundation and World Space Week. The top prize is your very own zero-gravity flight!
No Ins-and-Outs
Unfortunately, for security reasons, once you leave the event you will not be able to re-enter without a new ticket. Bring everyting you'll need for the day! The one exception to this rule is for parents taking their kids home in the evening: parents returning with a torn/validated ticket and also a torn/validated kids ticket will be allowed one re-entry. Don't worry, we have lots of tasty food and drinks available!
Food and Drink
See our exciting food and drink page for more information.
Photography and Video
Amateur photographers and videographers are welcome at Yuri’s Night Bay Area. If you are a commercial photographer or videographer, or a meber of the press, please see our media info page. Please be aware that Yuri’s Night Bay Area is a public space: by attending or displaying your works, you are consenting to being photographed.
Smoking
A designated smoking area will be available. Smoking outside this area is strictly prohibited. Yuri’s Night Bay Area takes place on an airfield and around aircraft, places where violating the smoking rules can be extremely dangerous.
What Not to Bring
Incredible effort and trust has gone into allowing this event to be held at a NASA facility. Please honor this by acting respectfully and responsibly.
NASA Ames Research Center is a federal facility. Controlled drugs and weapons are prohibited. If you are caught with a prohibited item you will be subject to applicable federal laws and statutes rather than their California counterparts. These level of enforcement will be more than what you would experience in your own communities. As at many events held throughout the U.S., we will be searching to ensure prohibited drugs and weapons do not enter the Center.
Finally, we must ask that you bring no glass bottles to Yuri’s Night. Thanks!
Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs
We are happy to accommodate all people with disabilities or other special needs. Please contact us at accessibility@yurisnightbayarea.net, or notify event staff or security at the event, and we will be happy to assist you. On-site ADA parking is available, and we can make arrangements for seating in the stage areas as needed. Yuri's Night Bay Area takes place on a flat aircraft tarmac and adjoining aircraft hangars, so getting around inside the event area is straightforward. If you require a sign-language interpreter, please contact the address above no later than March 29th.
